When using generic printer ribbons, which are not Syscan OEM printer ribbons,
There are major damages that can be done to the printer, which in the end will cost more money to maintain the printer.
- Generic printer ribbons have a smaller diameter on the ribbon itself, therefore it is harder to place on the carriage of the print head, the only way to remove the generic ribbon is by using a screw driver to pry the generic ribbon off the carriage, which damages the carriage return on the printer, causing damage to the printer.
- The textile used on generic ribbons is made of cheap quality, therefore as the ribbon is used the textile wears out quickly. The danger in this is, the textile gets worn and has holes, where it catches the pins on the print head, and causing print head damage, which is a costly repair.
- Generic ribbons have un even inking, where there is ink leakage at the side of the ribbon cassette, therefore casing damage to the shaft of the print head / carriage return. which will slow down the prinitng, and eventually burn out the print head.
By using generic ribbons, the damages done to the printers and their repair costs do not save the user money at all.
